THE STORY

You roll over in your bed and pull your pillow over your head. "Go away, Grandma. It's Saturday."
"Son, it's Tuesday," replies a deep, ominous voice, "and I'm not your grandma."
Startled, you roll back over. A four star general stands over your bed dressed in a dark green uniform.
"Who are you?" you ask.
"That's not important now, son. We have a problem, and you're the only one who can help." The general leans over and whips your covers off. "Now get up, soldier!"
"But I'm not a soldier," you reply. "I'm only a norma- Hey!" The four star pulls you out of bed by your ear.
"I don't think you understand, boy. The fate of the free world rests in your hands. The evil Dr. Garbonzo has stolen our cutting edge of technology ZX-71 Death Machine Mark II. Only you can destroy it before he sells into even more evil hands."
	"Your what?"
"It's a tank, soldier, a tank." The general sighs at your obvious stupidity.
"But how(" you begin.
The general cuts you off as he drags you over to your computer. "Remote control. I took the liberty of downloading the interface from the Pentagon before I woke you. Your computer will relay your commands inputted on this graphical interface to a ZX-71 tank commander in the field. He will follow your every instruction without question. You must destroy Dr. Garbonzo's tank before he destroys you."
You sit down at your computer and you blink. There on the screen is a display unlike any you've seen before, although it seems to remind you of something strangely familiar. "Are these two-dimensional graphics?" you inquire.
"Shut up and listen," snarls the general. "In the late 70's and early 80's the government initiated a covert 'early training' operation that involved releasing children's video games on the Atari2600. There was one called Combat."
"Wasn't that the one(" you start to say.
"I thought I told you to be quite. That game was in actuality a training simulation for remote command situations such as this. However, this interface is no simulation. This is the real thing. Listen carefully. Your tank is powered and armed with a nuclear fusion mobile plant drive. The controls are simple. You have a throttle, as well as turning and firing mechanisms. You will be using a ZX-71 nuclear fusion mortar shell. It is capable of disintegrating Dr. Garbonzo's tank with one shot."
"A nuclear fusion mortal shell?" you ask in awe.
"Down at HQ, we like to call it 'Mr. Happy.'"
"What are those?" you ask, pointing to some brown lines on the screen.
"Those are walls," replies the general. "Use them for defense."
"Can I blow them up?" you want to know.
	"No."
	"No?"
	"Huh-uh."
	"Why not?" you ask.
	"Because they're made of fruitcake."
Suddenly you are suspicious. Your eyes narrow. "Is this a dream?" you ask.
The four star leans over and looks you gravely in the eyes. His lips barely move as he speaks softly. "That depends on you..."

BASICS OF PLAY

Game Objective
The object of Tanks 2000LE is to destroy the enemy tank 5 times before it destroys your tank. To destroy an enemy tank, it must be hit by one of your tank's projectiles.

The Good, the Bad, and Where They Meet to Play
This is your ZX-71 Death Machine, armed with the deadliest 2-D cannon available on the market: The Stinger. Use with extreme caution!

Here we have the ZX-71 Death Machine Mark II guided by your opponent's evil hand. Yes, he has a better looking tank, but frankly, we think you're way smarter.

Ah, the deadly ZX-71 nuclear fusion "Mr. Happy" mortar shell -- really packs a punch. Sometimes the neighbors get upset, though.

It's not all fun and destruction in Tanks 2000LE. You have to be low down and sneaky, too. This is a wall. They will be scattered through out the battlefield to add strategy to the game. Hide behind them for safety. They are made out of fruitcake. Even the ZX-71 nuclear fusion mortar shell can't penetrate their solid mass.
